Stealing Adda by Tamara Leigh

WRITER’S BLOCK, NIBBLED NAILS, PLAGIARISM, OH MY! AND DID I MENTION ROMANCE? Life for Adda Sinclaire, New York Times best-selling author and historical romance writer extraordinaire, reads more like a country song than a breathless, bodice-bursting affair. For starters, she has no romance in her own life. That might have something to do with the fact that her husband—correction, ex-husband—ran off with Stick Woman, whom everyone knew would never be more than a mid-list author anyway. To add insult to injury (and another verse to the country song), her ex not only took their dog but gave it to Stick Woman. If that isn’t enough, Adda has come down with a horrible case of writer’s block, finds herself gifted with a Bible that is determined to speak to her, and is the unwitting target of a romance cover model’s misdirected advances. Just when she catches her breath—and quite possibly the eye of a certain fabulously good-looking man (ahem…her new editor)—her arch-nemesis gives the pot one final stir.

Spy by Night by Jordan McCollum

She hardly has time for romantic entanglements, even if she could let her guard down enough to get close to anyone. But all the rules she lives by could be broken when she meets aerospace engineer Danny Fluker.

Danny moved to Canada for a great job — and a chance to start over after a bad breakup. Dating definitely isn’t in his plans . . . until beautiful and enigmatic Talia throws a perfect storm right in his flight path. When he catches a glimpse of the real woman behind her façade, he has to get to know her better.

Talia has to find a Russian spymaster before he figures out she’s not who she claims, and failing to keep her two lives separate in the process could mean the death of more than just her budding relationship. Danny has to decide if a future with Talia — and facing the past — is worth the risk of getting hurt again. If they can break through the barriers keeping them apart (and avoid a major international catastrophe), they just might have a chance at being happy together.

The Organized Bride

Facebook Banner book 2

I must admit, I get a kick out of releasing a new book. There’s just something so magical about release day…I have a totally stupid grin all day and fall asleep with it still in place. That confessed, I’m positively thrilled to let you all know that the second book in the Billionaire Marriage Brokers’ series: The Organized Bride is now available in the Kindle Store.

If you read the first book, The Academic Bride, you met Pamela Jones, a modern fairy godmother if there ever was one. Pamela specializes in business marriage contracts, but she can spot a love match from a mile away. When Pamela has a good feeling about a bride and groom, sparks are sure to fly and she’s up to her old tricks once again.

In this book, we meet MaKayla…
MaKayla thought taking a job as an event planner for a high-end hotel would be a wonderful lead into opening her own events business. However, a one year no-contact clause leaves her clientless if she quits. With nowhere to go, she is intrigued with Pamela’s offer for a one-year contract running charities and overseeing contributions–until she finds out that to take her dream job, she also has to take Gabe…for better or worse.

You can pick up your copy by clicking here.

Read on for an excerpt!

Book 2 cover

Excerpt from The Organized Bride:

Gabe gestured toward the doors. MaKayla walked a couple feet and then stopped so fast that Gabe bumped into her, knocking her forward. He reached out and grabbed her shoulders, pulling her against his chest to keep her from falling.

For just a moment, they both froze, and Gabe could smell her deep scented perfume. A tremor went through her body—or both of theirs, he wasn’t sure—and he released her shoulders.

“Sorry.” She ducked her head as she tucked her hair behind her ear again, and Gabe had the insane desire to reach out and try that himself. “I was startled because that’s my name.” She pointed to the fresh paint on the concrete. “Well, it would be if I was changing my name.” Her cheeks colored slightly.

Gabe hurried to explain. “That’s your parking spot. I should have warned you about the name, but I thought it would be best if my colleagues knew you as MaKayla Russell.”

MaKayla smiled, but it looked more like a beauty-queen-on-a-parade-float smile than the one he’d seen in her photo. “You’re the boss.”

She started toward the doors again, and Gabe fell in step beside her, partially to present a united front when they walked through the door and partially so he wouldn’t run over her again if she stopped. It wasn’t the running over her that bothered him, so much as the holding her close. That had churned up feelings he hadn’t seen in a long time, feelings he needed to keep a lid on, because he was, as she so aptly pointed out, the boss, not someone who could pursue those feelings, even if he wanted to.

Calvin Sparks and the Crossing to Cambria

As a kid, I think I made up my own world on a daily basis. It’s part of having an imagination the size of Texas. Now, I see my kids doing the same thing. Sometimes, they come together to play in these imaginary worlds, and sometimes they are off on their own adventures. One of the reasons I enjoyed reading Calvin Sparks and the Crossing to Cambria, was that it reminded me of what it was like to be a kid and have a place where I could ride a dragon, fight monsters, and use magic to make my bed.

Book Summary:

calvin sparks“I told you,” said Perry. “I told you we’d find it.” Calvin smiled and shook his head at Perry.
“You were right, Calvin,” Anna said, standing in awe. “You were absolutely right.”

For years, Calvin’s grandfather has told him stories about a cabin deep in the woods that holds an amazing secret. Then one day Calvin and his two best friends find the cabin. Inside they discover more than just the world’s coolest clubhouse. This is The Crossing—a magical portal that takes them to another world.
Soon all three are in Cambria, a fantastic world filled with bizarre people, wonderful food, real magic, and even dragons! There Calvin learns that his family has a secret history and he’s swept up in the same dangerous mission that got his father killed thirteen years ago.
Can Calvin, Anna, and Perry stand up to the evil sorcerer Galigore and his grotesque minions? Or is Calvin doomed to follow in his father’s footsteps? This epic adventure story is perfect for kids and parents alike. Full of action, adventure, mystery, and magic, it’s an entertaining read that will keep you guessing.

Family Talk Blog Tour

You know I am all about family! I love to share books we read as a family, recipes, and everyday tidbits that make my day. Almost everything I do centers around family. That’s why, when I was asked by the author if I’d like to join her blog tour for Family Talk, I jumped on the chance.

Our family councils tend to be informal. We may have them while eating dinner or riding in the car. In fact, I don’t know that we’d even call them family council meetings because they are short and to the point. Usually, it’s when there’s a change coming up that will affect the family – like a shift in job responsibilities or scheduling. We present the information, answer questions, and then move on. I’ve found that even that short communication makes things run smoother.

Author Christy Monson, a retired family therapist, has put together a wonderful guide to holding family council meetings. She shares stories, incites, and tips that are sure to help improve any family’s communication.

What I liked about the idea of holding formal family council meetings, was that it would train my children, mostly by example, on how to conduct a meeting and keep the attendees on task and on topic. It’s a skill they won’t necessarily learn anywhere else and once they hit the business world, it can come in handy.

There are several ways to purchase Family Talk if you’d like to pick up a copy for yourself or as a Christmas gift.

Do you hold regular family councils or are your family meetings sporadic? I’d love for you to share what works for your family by leaving a comment below!

Willow Springs Blog Tour

Back Cover

Husbands. Crissa had to suppress a shudder at the thought. If I had wanted a husband, I would have stayed in Boston. Indeed, Crissa considered Willow Springs to be the nearest thing to her idea of purgatory. She certainly did not plan to stay here long.

Swedish immigrant Crissa Engleson fled Boston hoping to start a new life, unknown and unencumbered, on the American frontier. The quiet gold mining town of Willow Springs in the Utah desert seemed the perfect spot—until the intrigue of her past and rivalries of the town’s leading families enveloped her.

Unaware that a relentless bounty hunter is pursuing her, Crissa falls in love with Drake Adams, a handsome Pony Express rider and the son of an influential mine owner. While Drake returns Crissa’s interest, their courtship is thwarted by the pursuit of one of Drake’s rivals, who may be motivated more by malice than by love.

To realize her dreams, Crissa must confront her painful past and fight for her future head-on.

Thoughts

I must admit, I’m a sucker for a clean romance. But, this isn’t just a romance, it’s a western romance. Though the early days out West were full of hard work, sweat, and sometimes even blood, there’s something so very romantic about finding love in the Old West. I think part of it is because readers understand life was hard and to see characters struggle through hardships – and Crissa has her fair share of hardships – to find love and fight for that love gives us hope. We may not have to scrub tobacco stains off a hotel dining room floor, but we have our own set of unpleasant tasks that make it easy to relate to characters, like Crissa. I hope you enjoy reading about Crissa’s fight for the love of her life and their struggle for happiness as much as I did. The mystery included in the story is such a wonderful addition that you’ll find yourself flipping pages late into the night.

“How Much Do You Love Me?” Blog Tour

A great read!

Book Summary:

As the phone continued to ring, Kazuko bent over and picked up the cardboard. Fingers shaking, she steadied herself against the counter and stared. It took a fourth ring before she composed herself enough to answer.
It was Patrick. “I was afraid that you had already left.” There was a pause. “Kazuko, are you there?”
Kazuko’s heart was thumping hard. “I’m here, Patrick. You’re not going to believe what I just found—in the last place we would have ever looked.”

On December 7, 1941, Keiko Tanaka finds her whole world affected by the Pearl Harbor bombings. Normally friendly neighbors are suddenly suspicious of her Japanese ancestry, and her engagement to James Armstrong—a Caucasian—becomes a crisis rather than a celebration. Despite their parents’ protests, Keiko and James decide to marry before she is sent to the internment camps and he to the war.

Nearly sixty years later, Keiko’s daughter, Kazuko—born in the camps—attends to Keiko on her deathbed. However, a chance incident makes her suspect that her mother is harboring a secret. The truths she is about to uncover might unravel the family . . . and change her very perception of abiding love.

Author Spotlight : Heather Ostler

I’m excited to be a part of Utah Book Month. I’m especially excited because I get to spotlight Author Heather Ostler

author_Heather_Ostler

Heather lives in Utah with her husband and their two pugs. She is not only an talented author, she’s also a fun person (one who enjoys lucky pennies and The Parent Trap) whose imagination is as big as the sky.

She is the author of The Siren’s Secret and The Shapeshifter’s Secret. Both books are published by Cedar Fort and are available at Cedarfort.com and Amazon.com.

One thing Heather admits on her blog is that she is sometimes afraid to dream big. In fact, most of her family and friends didn’t know she was writing a novel until it was about to be published! For someone who is afraid to dream big, she’s sure done some big things. 🙂

All writers are also readers. Many started reading when they were four and never stopped; others didn’t soak up books until college. Heather got into reading when she entered junior high. It was then that everything clicked into place and she started making characters, poems, and stories of her own.

Heather writes paranormal young adult. The third book in the series should be out next year.
