Unercover Engagement

Undercover Engagement front cover

Alyssa Eastman is engaged to the man of her dreams. Jason is intelligent, attractive, and he makes her laugh. When the couple is attacked by a group of men who call Jason by the wrong name, shoot holes in his beautiful car, and try to run them off the road, Alyssa learns her perfect fiancé is also the perfect spy. With his cover blown, the only way to bring down an international terrorist group is for Alyssa to steal the information. She agrees to help, putting her life on the line; but, putting her heart on the line and marrying a man who lied to her about his identity (albeit for national security – but still!!) is a much harder decision.

My latest release – Undercover Engagement – was a lot of fun to write. One day, I wondered how a woman could accidentally get married – without being drunk – and the rest of the story clicked into place. Because Jason is a spy, there were cool gadgets and an awesome car that made their way into the book. The shack that is his secret hideout actually exists. In fact, it kind of creeped me out.

Oh the car! (Sigh) I think I fell in love with the car. A Dodge Viper is the type of vehicle that turns heads, well, I should say the Viper turns every head. Men, women, children …  the Amish – no one can help but watch this baby slide by and appreciate its curves. Of course, even the most amazing vehicle on the planet needs to be adjusted for a spy’s life. So, I spent some time talking to my neighbor, who works as a police officer, about bullet-proof glass and armor plating. He referred me to different training videos and online sales sites. That part of the research was ultra cool.

All in all, I spent a lot of time smiling as I wrote. In fact, I had such a good time with Alyssa, I might just write a sequel. She’s book smart and has awesome life skills; she’s daring, resourceful, and loves with all her heart. Characters like her, the ones you wish were real so they could be your best friend, don’t come along everyday.

End of School Teacher Gift

ImageWith the end of another school year fast approaching, I tremble with fear and a whole lot more excitement. I love having my children home. They are each others best friends and truly creative in their play.

But, they have also had fantastic teachers this year and we wanted to give them a little something that let them know we appreciated their efforts. So this is what we came up with.

I’m not sure if you can read the note. It says, “Thanks for a joyous year! We love you to pieces!”

Then we bought a bag of Almond Joy Pieces, punched a couple holes in the top, and tied it all up with ribbons. This one was minimal because it was coming from Mr. 7 and he didn’t want it to look too girlie. 🙂

I hope you have a fantastic summer. I can’t wait for it to begin.

Mother’s Day Gift Idea

Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Usually I have it highlighted and circled in bright pink on the family calendar. This year, I’ve been so busy, I almost forgot. In fact, it wasn’t until we were sitting in church yesterday and the speaker mentioned that Mother’s Day was this coming Sunday that I realized the deadline. Not that I have much to do except find a way to remind Hubby. That usually happens with the calendar, but I had to resort to a higher level of memory trigger this year so I went to Ms. 5.

“Hey,” I whispered so the family in front of us wouldn’t hear the conversation or think I was hunting for gifts. I’m really just thinking of the kids and how bad they would feel if they missed Mother’s Day. Mr. 7 is especially tender about these things and likes ample time to make a heart-felt card.

“You need to tell Daddy that Mother’s Day is next week.”

** Later that day **

“Yes, Ms. 5.”

“Mommy says I need to tell you Mudder’s Day is next week.”

Hubby raises an eyebrow in my direction while I pretend not to hear what’s happening three feet away. Hey, I didn’t tell them what to get me…

If I had, I would mention the new book by Heather B. Moore and S. Kent Brown.

It’s full of wonderful incites on a woman’s divine roll and potential.

“But an angel comes to the mother of Samson twice, indicating that the Lord sees her for who she really is…”

I found this to be one of the most powerful thoughts in Divinity of Women. As Samson’s mother is persecuted for her inability to carry a child, she may have begun to believe that she was cursed, that she was unworthy, or that she just wasn’t good enough. Despite the constant negative feedback from her neighbors, the Lord knew what kind of a woman she really was and he honored her, loved her, and looked to bring her comfort. How is this different from our day? We are constantly barraged with negative thoughts about our bodies, our abilities, our worthiness in the eyes of the world; and yet, the Lord sees us for who we really are and He loves us because of what we are at out core.

Divinity of Women is full of these little treasures that can help inspire us and teach us about the true relationship women have with their Father in Heaven. If you’re looking for a way to tell the woman/women in your life Happy Mother’s Day, this is a great way to do it.

Fractured Truth Blog Tour

fractured truth

Book Summary:

Llona is determined to end the fight with the Vykens once and for all. All she needs is to find and destroy the Shadow—the ultimate source of dark power. But when she makes a startling discovery about someone she loves, Llona has to fight the toughest battle yet in this exciting conclusion to the Fractured Light series.

I was ecstatic to review this book. I have followed the series since it began way back in 2012 and waited, not so patiently at times, for the third book. Now that all three are out, you can just read straight through.

Rachel McClellan has a wonderful story telling style. Because of her descriptions, I easily see rooms, buildings, people, and landscapes with amazing detail. She truly brought the world to life.

The plots for all three books are woven together in a way that is engaging and multileveled. You’ll learn things in this book that explain events in book one; yet book one can stand alone.

I would recommend the series as a clean read. The language is clean and there aren’t any explicit scenes.

A New Erica Coleman Mystery!!!

Book Summary:

In her debut mystery, Motive for Murder, gutsy private investigator Erica Coleman proved that when it comes to sleuthing, she takes the cake. Now, the fast-talking, food-loving heroine is back, and she’s sure her next assignment will be as easy as pie . . . Erica and her family happily anticipate Grandma Blanche’s eighty-first birthday celebration in the picturesque town of Florence, Oregon. But when the feisty matriarch, a savvy businesswoman, enlists Erica’s help in an investigation of her company, things quickly get sticky. Before the investigation can begin, Blanche’s unexpected death leaves Erica with more questions than answers—and it soon becomes clear that Grandma’s passing was anything but natural: she was murdered. When Aunt Martha, Blanche’s reclusive sister, becomes the next victim of someone with a taste for homicide, Erica uses her flair for cooking to butter up local law enforcement and gather clues. As she narrowly escapes becoming the third victim, Erica is more determined than ever to solve the case—before she bites off more than she can chew.
